AUBURN HILLS -- The Detroit Pistons' community work, in particular their support during the Flint water crisis, earned the team one of four nominations for ESPN's Sports Humanitarian Team of the Year.
The Pistons, Los Angeles Galaxy, San Francisco 49ers and San Francisco Giants are the finalists, with winners announced July 12 in Los Angeles and highlights presented in a 30-minute ESPN special on July 15.
The winner will be allowed to direct a $100,000 grant from ESPN toward the humanitarian effort for which it won the award. The other three finalists similarly can direct a $25,000 grant to its charitable effort.
