The Detroit Pistons have emerged as one of the NBA’s early season surprises, the result of an improbable weekend in California.
The Pistons handed the Los Angeles Clippers, the league’s last unbeaten team, their first loss, 95-87, on Saturday. Then, more impressively, they beat the defending champion Golden State Warriors 115-107, on Sunday.
Detroit (5-2) has won three in a row and is tied with Boston and Orlando at the top of the Eastern Conference.
The Pistons will try to sweep the three-game trip Tuesday against the Lakers. Detroit hasn’t won as many as three games on a West Coast trip since November 2008, when they went 3-1, with victories over the Kings, Warriors and Lakers.
