The Detroit Pistons tried what few NBA teams have done in recent years - have one person in charge of personnel and coaching. It didn't work.
Now, they're searching for two candidates to fill those roles after announcing Monday that Stan Van Gundy will not return following four years as coach and president of basketball operations.
The Pistons are late to search party. The season ended April 11 and a couple of coaching vacancies have been filled. But there still are plenty of coaching candidates available, some with extensive NBA experience.
First, the team must put in place a president.
