The NBA playoff seeding was a bit outdated. If a team won its division it would be awarded a higher seed even if its win/loss record was worse than another playoff team in the conference.
The rule has been mulled over and now a new rule has been voted on and approved by the NBA Board of Governors.
The NBA Board of Governors unanimously approved changes to playoff seeding and qualification procedures effective with the 2015-16 season, the league announced Tuesday.
As part of the modifications, the eight playoff teams in each conference will be seeded in order of their regular-season record.
