The Pistons can start packing moving boxes — they’re cleared to play in downtown Detroit next season.
The NBA announced Thursday that its Board of Governors unanimously approved the Pistons’ request to move from The Palace of Auburn Hills to Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. It appears to be the final hurdle to the Pistons joining the Red Wings at the new arena, which is almost near completion of construction and will be ready for both teams to open their respective seasons in October.
It’s the culmination of a long process of bringing together two huge entertainment entities: Palace Sports & Entertainment — under the umbrella of owner Tom Gores’ Platinum Equity — and Ilitch Holdings, which owns the Red Wings.
