Luke Walton, Kevin Burleson to join Pistons as assistant coaches under JB Bickerstaff

The Detroit Pistons’ coaching bench is starting to take shape under new leadership by JB Bickerstaff. Luke Walton, who had head coaching stints with the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings, is being hired as the lead assistant in Detroit. Walton spent last year in Cleveland as an assistant coach under Bickerstaff. Walton had a 10-year playing career, nine of those seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, including falling in the 2004 NBA Finals to the Pistons. Shams Charania of The Athletic was first to break the news of Walton’s hiring.

The Pistons are also hiring Kevin Burleson as an assistant coach.
