GRAND RAPIDS - Rob Werdann looked comfortable, appeared relaxed but there was something different about his first official practice as coach of the Grand Rapids Drive.
It was new.
Werdann, a long-time assistant coach who most recently was a scout for the Detroit Pistons, began a new role as coach of the Pistons' NBA G League affiliate.
It meant going from behind the scenes to out front leading a team.
"The pro-personnel side with the Pistons the past two years, I was secluded," Werdann said after Monday's practice at Calvin College. "I was watching a lot of film, I was sending in reports and not too much from the outside world other than my immediate family.
