Detroit — Arguably the biggest name in the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame's Class of 2019, Grant Hill won't be part of the Class of 2019, after all.
Hill, the former Detroit Pistons great, is unable to attend the induction ceremony on Oct. 5, so he will be enshrined with the Class of 2020.
This is the second notable absence in four years for the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame, which had to induct Yankees great and Kalamazoo native Derek Jeter in 2016 after plane troubles caused him to miss the 2015 ceremony.
Still, the show will go on for the induction ceremony at MotorCity Casino, with the inductees including longtime Michigan sportswriters Harry Atkins and Mike O'Hara, the later formerly of The Detroit News; former Farmington Hills Mercy and University of Michigan basketball standout Diane Dietz; former Clarkston boys basketball coach Dan Fife; Red Wings legend Vladimir Konstantinov; former Flint, Michigan State and NBA star Morris Peterson; Olympic gold-medalist swimmer Allison Schmitt; executive Tom Wilson; and Michigan Heisman Trophy winner and NFL star Charles Woodson.
