A general manager/president of basketball operations by any other name ... is still in charge of personnel decisions.
That appears to be senior adviser Ed Stefanski's role with the Detroit Pistons.
In a most unusual way of doing things, the Pistons on Monday hired a head coach, Dwane Casey, before a GM/head of basketball ops.
Casey, many would agree, was the right choice. He was the most experienced, most accomplished and probably the most respected candidate for a franchise that has reached the playoffs once in nine seasons.
But by putting a coach in place with a five-year, $35 million contract, the Pistons limited their options for a GM/president.
