Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores invited a special guest to the inaugural NBA Awards in New York on Monday: Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha.
The local pediatrician, who helped reveal the Flint water crisis, witnessed Russell Westbrook take home the MVP trophy, Saginaw native Draymond Green get honored as the Defensive Player of the Year and a host of other awards get handed for the 2016-17 season.
She also bumped into Flint legend Glen Rice and Pistons Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas at the star-studded event.
But more importantly, she was given a platform to shine a light on Flint and draw attention to the continued needs of the community.
