AUBURN HILLS -- The Detroit Pistons have waived guard Michael Gbinije, a move that was anticipated Saturday, otherwise his $1.3 million contract would have been guaranteed.

The Pistons have the minimum 14 guaranteed contracts and aren't expected to add another. Coach Stan Van Gundy said they will use their allotment of two two-way contracts. Gbinije could be an candidate for a two-way deal.

The Pistons drafted Gbinije 49th overall in 2016 out of Syracuse. The 6-7 shooting guard appeared in nine games last season, averaging 0.4 points, 0.3 rebounds, 0.2 assists and 3.5 minutes per game.
