When a team looks for a third string point guard they are hoping for instant offense off the bench, or maybe a defensive stopper, change of pace penetrator, an insurance policy against injury, a young project or a veteran leader.
Over the past decade or so, the Detroit Pistons have managed to find none of these. Chucky Atkins, Walker Russell (who?), John Lucas III, DJ Augustin, Steve Blake, Beno Udrih, Dwight Buycks, Jameer Nelson and a double dose of Jose Calderon are what the Pistons got instead.
