SLAM DUNK – For Stan Van Gundy and his current roster and staff, the game was the thing. For the crowd that packed The Palace, it was less about the outcome – a loss to Washington – than a chance to say goodbye to the place the Pistons have called home for 29 seasons and hung all three of the franchise’s NBA title banners. There were countless sentimental touches, from the lone trumpeter playing strains of “The Final Countdown” to set up player introductions to the return of players from all eras to a halftime ceremony where the three championship trophies were on display.
