When the Pistons learned that they would lose Aaron Gray for the season after he suffered a "cardiac episode" during a late-August workout, Stan Van Gundy went looking for another reliable veteran big man. It wasn't an easy job description. He wanted someone who could sit for three or four games in a row, then be ready to play significant minutes if foul trouble or injury struck Andre Drummond or Greg Monroe.
