Detroit Pistons big man Greg Monroe was the subjects of a litany of trade rumors this past summer. It appears that those rumors didn't start without merit.
According to Shams Charania of RealGM, "several NBA teams" posited sign-and-trade scenarios to the Pistons this offseason regarding Monroe. However, new coach/president Stan Van Gundy took his chances - signing Monroe to a one-year qualifying offer and almost assuredly sending Monroe elsewhere come free agency in 2015.
Monroe addressed all of the offseason trade talk in a recent interview with RealGM.com.
“There were a few teams that were serious, but that’s in the past now,” Monroe told RealGM. “The Pistons were very much within their rights to do what they did. It’s a business, so they chose to do what was best for them. Stan’s been great and his NBA track record is proven. He’s had a lot of success in this league.
“For me, I think there’ll be more freedom this time around.”
