The Detroit Pistons plan to sign veteran guard John Lucas III to a 10-day contact to help their depleted backcourt, per sources cited by Marc Stein of ESPN.com.
According to Stein, "sources told ESPN.com that the Pistons, who have been looking for another point guard ever since Brandon Jennings suffered a season-ending Achilles injury, are in the process of finalizing a deal with Lucas, who is fresh off completing his season in China."
Lucas, 31, opted to head to China after being released by the Washington Wizards back in October. He spent last season with the Utah Jazz, and has also spent stints with the Houston Rockets, Chicago Bulls, and Toronto Raptors.
The Pistons have explored trade options to find a stopgap replacement for Jennings, but Stan Van Gundy's adamant refusal at giving up future picks will likely keep them out of the trade market for the time being.
