With Washington still out, RB James could play

Rookie running back Dwayne Washington missed his third straight practice today with a sprained foot and ankle, and the Detroit Lions could be forced to dip into their practice squad for reinforcements for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles (1 p.m., Fox).

The Lions signed Mike James to the practice squad this week, and coach Jim Caldwell indicated today that James is ready to contribute Sunday, if needed.

"He’s only been here a short period of time, but he’s very smart, very capable," Caldwell said. "He learns very quickly, which is a big plus."

The Lions are down to two healthy running backs on their 53-man roster: Theo Riddick and Zach Zenner.
