When the 2016 regular season came to its end, the New York Giants were playing arguably the best defense in the NFL. They held three of their final four opponents, including the Detroit Lions, to 10 points or less and made a late run for a wild card spot.
The Giants finished second in the league in scoring defense that year, behind only the New England Patriots, who had current Lions coach Matt Patricia as their defensive coordinator.
