Why is Detroit practicing in the snow when its next cold-weather game is a month away?

ALLEN PARK -- Hours after practice ended, it seemed like Darius Slay still hadn't fully thawed out.

Of course, Slay is from Georgia. He likes warm weather. On Thursday, temperatures slipped into the 20s and the snow started flying.

The Lions practiced outdoors anyway.

"Cold," Slay said. "Work got to get done, so we do it the best way we can."

Practicing in the snow or any kind of inclement weather was unusual under Jim Schwartz and Jim Caldwell. But this is the second time in as many weeks Matt Patricia has done it.

Last week, with a game on tap in Chicago, it made sense.
