Safety Quandre Diggs intercepted New York Jets debutant Sam Darnold and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown on the Lions first play of the season.
It is a flying start, and hopefully a good omen for what’s to come for Detroit this year.
This is the second straight time where a rookie quarterback has thrown a touchdown on his first ever pass against the Lions. This one is a little more positive than Matt Ryan’s touchdown from 2008, though.
Darnold is the first quarterback to throw a pick-6 on his first career pass since Jameis Winston in 2015, and join an exclusive club that also includes the Green Bay Packers legend Brett Favre.
