The Detroit Lions will have a new flagship radio station beginning in 2016.
The Lions plan to announce a new multi-year broadcast deal with WJR-AM (760) on Friday, two people familiar with the announcement told the Free Press.
The team is in the final year of its contract with WXYT-FM (97.1), its flagship station for the last 12 seasons.
While details of the new deal are not fully known, the Lions are expected to keep the radio team of play-by-play man Dan Miller and color commentator Jim Brandstatter in place.
The Lions today announced the hiring of a new president, Rod Wood, and are in the early stages of finding a general manager to replace Martin Mayhew.
