On Friday night, runner Melissa Gonzalez lined up in the hopes to keep her Olympic dreams in Tokyo live. Thousands of miles away her husband, Detroit Lions quarterback David Blough, was in a team meeting room watching her getting ready to compete for the first 400-meter hurdles heat of the night.
Unbeknownst to him, the entire Lions coaching staff was there behind him to watch and support him and his wife.
“Man, it was incredible,” Blough said on Saturday. “Coach (Dan) Campbell and his staff have made this more special than it already was. I was sitting there with Tim (Boyle) and Jared (Goff) and a couple of the other guys and had no idea the whole staff was out there.
