Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said Monday he expected to sign a quarterback to the practice squad on Tuesday. True to his word, the team added veteran Ricky Stanzi to their practice-squad ranks today.
A former fifth-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs out of Iowa, Stanzi has had stints with the Chiefs, Jaguars, Texans (practice squad) and most recently with the Giants.
Stanzi (6-4, 228) started three seasons at Iowa and finished with 56 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.
He has not thrown a regular-season pass in the NFL.
He’ll run the scout team for the Lions, a job formerly held by Kellen Moore, who was released by the Lions as part of final cuts over the weekend and signed on to the Cowboys’ practice squad soon after.
