Houston — Barry Sanders’ unexpected retirement in 1999 is a painful memory for many Detroit Lions fans, but at the NFL Honors ceremony on Saturday night, it was a source of comedy.
As the program came back from commercial break, host Keegan-Michael Key was sitting in the audience. He talked about how he’s always approached by fans about his sketch comedy show, “Key and Peele,” which aired from 2012-15. Key said fans always tell him how much they loved the show, but wished it would have gone on a few more seasons.
Key then asked the person to his left if he knew what that was that like as the camera panned out to reveal Sanders, who said, “Yeah, I do.
