SAN FRANCISCO – The Indianapolis Colts were a middling franchise with a future Hall-of-Fame quarterback when they hired Tony Dungy as head coach in 2002.
Four years later, they were Super Bowl champs, and now Dungy is headed to the Hall of Fame.
Dungy was part of the eight-member class elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame today.
Former Detroit Lions guard Dick Stanfel, who won two championships with the team in 1952-53, also was elected as a senior committee nominee.
Quarterback Brett Favre, receiver Marvin Harrison, linebacker Kevin Greene and offensive tackle Orlando Pace, senior committee nominee Ken Stabler and contributor Eddie DeBartolo Jr.
