The Travis Swanson experiment is nearing an official end

ALLEN PARK -- The Travis Swanson experiment appears to be nearing an official close, with NFL Network reporting the Jets "plan" to sign the former Lions center.

The Lions selected Swanson in the third round of the 2014 draft. Dominic Raiola was entering the twilight of his career back then, so the club figured it could add Swanson, a first-team All-American out of Arkansas, to have a succession plan in place.

But their plan never really materialized as they imagined.

Swanson spent a season as Raiola's understudy, then moved into the starting lineup in 2015. And he struggled.
