The Detroit Lions came into free agency needing help at the safety position but were unable to land top free agents George Iloka and Rodney McLeod. They also failed to bring back Isa Abdul-Quddus, their top reserve option in previous years who rose to starter status as James Ihedigbo saw the wheels fall off. They still managed to bring in a safety, but it wasn’t the one people were expecting nor is he likely to take over starter duties any time soon. In 2012, Lions top FA target George Iloka came out as a 5th round pick, but it was three rounds earlier in the 2nd that Bill Belichick and the Patriots selected Tavon Wilson.
