Tavon Wilson hasn't started a game since midway through his rookie season in 2012, but when the Detroit Lions open the season Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts (4:25 p.m., Fox), Wilson will be on the field.
Lions coach Jim Caldwell said today that Wilson won the strong safety job with his play in training camp, though backups Rafael Bush and Miles Killebrew also will have defensive roles.
Glover Quin returns as the Lions' starting free safety.
"It’s as printed (on the depth chart)," Caldwell said when asked to name his starting strong safety. "But does that mean that Bush is not going to play some for us?
