NAPA, Calif. — Derek Carr’s perfect training camp came to an abrupt end Tuesday because of all things, “a stupid scramble drill.”
Well, that and a very sticky cornerback.
Carr, the Oakland Raiders’ fifth-year quarterback, threw his first interception of the summer, and it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Darius Slay was on the other end.
Slay tied for the NFL lead with eight interceptions last season, and as the Detroit Lions get ready for Friday’s preseason opener against the Oakland Raiders, he looks like he's primed for another big year.
On Tuesday, in the first of two joint practices between the Lions and Raiders, Slay picked off an errant Carr pass after Carr was forced out of the pocket in the first period of full team work.
