Sheila Ford Hamp: Detroit Lions can sign Colin Kaepernick if Bob Quinn, coaches choose to

Sheila Ford Hamp launched her tenure as the Detroit Lions’ principal owner Tuesday with strong statements on the support of social-justice efforts. But perhaps no statement was stronger than the one she made about Colin Kaepernick.

Namely, she would support her coaches and general manager Bob Quinn to sign the free-agent quarterback if they choose to do so.

“Well, if our coaches and the general manager all thought it was a good idea to bring him in, I would completely support that,” she said in a conference call with reporters after the team announced she would immediately take over for her mother, Martha Firestone Ford, as the Lions’ owner and chairman.
