Sharp: Lions need to transform Megatron or let him go

There’s a blind spot in this town when it comes to Calvin Johnson.

He’s not simply a tremendous player. He has become that adopted family member to Lions fans. That quiet, classy, professional individual revered for his temperament as much as his talent.

How many times has anyone in Detroit referred to him as Johnson?

It always has been Calvin. It’s always first names for family.

But it’s always hardest watching a family member regress physically due to advancing age. Calvin isn’t Megatron any longer. It’s time everyone stopped kidding themselves.

There remain those moments of jaw-dropping awe, but they come far too irregularly for the 30-year-old star.
