The Lions kick off the preseason today vs. the New York Jets, but we won’t see a number of starters.
The team ruled out cornerback Rashean Mathis, running back Joique Bell, offensive tackle LaAdrian Waddle, defensive end Jason Jones and defensive tackle Haloti Ngata.
Bell, Waddle and Jones have been on the PUP list since the start of camp.
Ngata strained a hamstring in his workouts before camp and is still on the active/non-football injury list.
It’s unclear if Mathis is just getting the veteran treatment, or if there’s an injury involved.
Second-year cornerback Nevin Lawson will start in his place.
