Regarded as one of the best high school running backs that the state of Maryland has ever produced, Jake Funk now faces an uphill battle to crack the Detroit Lions’ 53-man roster.
Funk was signed to Detroit’s practice squad on January 23—just two days after their divisional round win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A week later, he opted to rejoin the team on a Reserve/Futures deal.
Entering his fourth season, Funk is now on his sixth NFL team. He was originally drafted out of Maryland by the Rams in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft and has since been with the Saints, Colts, Dolphins, and Ravens before signing on with the Lions.
