I can’t imagine Detroit’s first three picks were part of some grand scheme this regime had going into last week’s 2021 NFL Draft, but that’s just how it happened to work out for Brad Holmes in his first draft as general manager of the Detroit Lions.
The Lions got bigger—much bigger—along their front lines.
After selecting the 6-foot-6, 331-pound Penei Sewell with their first pick, Detroit switched their focus to the other side of the ball but didn’t change their approach, selecting Washington’s Levi Onwuzurike (6-foot-3, 290 pounds) and NC State’s Alim McNeill (6-foot-2, 320 pounds) with their next two picks.
