The New York Jets aren't wasting any time throwing their rookie quarterback to the Lions — literally.
Jets coach Todd Bowles announced Monday that first-round pick Sam Darnold will start next week's season opener against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field.
Darnold, the No. 3 overall pick in April's draft, will become the first quarterback to start the first NFL game of his career against the Lions since Matt Ryan in 2008.
