Report: Lions working out veteran linebacker

The Detroit Lions haven't made a transaction through the first several days of training camp, but general manager Bob Quinn always is looking for ways to upgrade his roster. On Tuesday, an off day for the players, the team is working out veteran linebacker Kelvin Sheppard, according to an ESPN report.

A third-round pick out of LSU in 2011, the 6-foot-2, 249-pound Sheppard has spent time with four teams, most recently with the New York Giants.

He was re-signed by the Giants in the middle of last season, appearing in seven games, including six starts.
