Report: Detroit Lions cut safety Charles Washington

According to ESPN’s Michael Rothstein, the Detroit Lions have parted with special teams ace Charles Washington.

This is a pretty surprising move, as Washington has been one of the best special teams players over the past few years. After spending most of his rookie year on the Lions’ practice squad, Washington was a heavy contributor over the past two years, racking up 20 tackles in 29 game appearances.

Washington being waived could very well be great news for undrafted rookie C.J. Moore. Moore, too, has been good on special teams this preseason and even made a few plays at safety during the preseason finale.
