ALLEN PARK -- Tion Green led the Detroit Lions in yards per carry last season. Now he's the first running back out of a job.
Detroit axed Green on Thursday, the first of several exits to come at the position over the next couple months.
The Lions' backfield had bloated to eight players with the return of every back from last year, plus the arrival of LeGarrette Blount in free agency and Kerryon Johnson and Nick Bawden in the draft. The club is expected to carry just four or five players at the position.
That means at least three players will lose their jobs this offseason, and perhaps four.
