Rashean Mathis had an impact on the field for the Detroit Lions, but the past three seasons he made an even bigger difference off of it.
Mathis, who announced his retirement Tuesday after 13 NFL seasons, was the mentor in the secondary for the Lions and someone to look up to for a lot of the guys on the entire defense. He led with advice, which was something he started from his early days with Detroit in 2013 by working with then-rookie cornerback Darius Slay, and also with how he carried himself.
