Chip Kelly made headlines when he took over as Philadelphia Eagles coach three years ago and started customizing smoothies for his players to drink after practice.
New Lions general manager Bob Quinn won’t go to those lengths to manage his players’ nutritional habits. But he did add a sports dietitian to the staff this off-season, and players will be greeted by a “shake station” in the cafeteria when they return for workouts this month.
“It sounds like a very small aspect of the organization,” Quinn said Thursday at a season-ticket holder event at Ford Field. “But I think it’s one that’s really important, because we want the players to have as much energy, as much healthy food that they can, so when it’s time to go on the practice field or the game field, they’re ready to go.
