Matt Prater has been kicking field goals at a smaller target in the Lions’ offseason workouts in an effort to improve his accuracy and make a bigger percentage in the regular season.
Prater has been practicing with Arena League goalposts that have nine feet between the two uprights. The NFL goal posts are 18 feet, 6 inches wide – almost twice as wide as the Arena League posts.
Prater’s practice technique is new to the Lions, but not to Prater. He used Arena League posts in Denver, where he kicked for the Broncos from 2007-13.
