DETROIT -- The Detroit Lions roster is down to 53 men at last. It didn't happen without some difficult decisions.
This was the first year the NFL has allowed teams to wait until after the regular season to pare its roster down. The change meant that rosters would drop from 90 men right down to the 53 they'll keep for the regular season. It adds to the intrigue of the cuts.
Saturday's Lions trims had a few items that caught the eye at least.
One was cutting wide receiver Jace Billingsley, he of a second year in the Lions system and an impressive spring playing in the slot and returning punts.
