The Lions are through the main waves of free agency. The likelihood of another starter coming that way is relatively low.
That sets the draft at the end of this month up as the time to address their remaining positional needs, of which they have a few.
Detroit spread its money out in free agency, tapping lots of one-year deals at obvious need points to create stopgaps with the potential to earn long-term deals with their play this season. In the process, they have added the following players:
- LB Devon Kennard (formerly of the Giants)
- LB Christian Jones (Bears)
- TE Luke Willson (Seahawks)
- DT Sylvester Williams (Titans)
- RB LeGarrette Blount (Eagles)
- CB DeShawn Shead (Seahawks)
- OG Kenny Wiggins (Chargers)
- TE Levine Toilolo (Falcons)
- LB Jonathan Freeny (Saints)
- QB Matt Cassel (Titans)
They also brought back players such as cornerback Nevin Lawson, safety Tavon Wilson, quarterback Jake Rudock and wide receiver TJ Jones.
