O'HARA'S NOW AND THEN: Porcher, Reid and Webster

Robert Porcher can’t relate exactly to what defensive linemen Larry Webster and Caraun Reid felt entering the NFL last year as mid-round draft picks by the Lions, but what they face in the transition from rookie to second-year pro is a shared experience.

Spending a year in the trenches turns a wide-eyed rookie into player who focuses on what it takes to be a pro, on and off the field.

“The biggest thing from year one to year two is that the excitement, the not knowing ... just the anticipation of being awe struck over everything associated with being in the NFL -- that’s over,” Porcher said in a telephone interview from his home in Orlando.
