Nevin Lawson went into this offseason feeling like he had something to prove after cashing in on an opportunity last year that gave him something to gain.
Lawson made a quantum leap on the Detroit Lions’ depth chart last year – from playing sparingly as a backup cornerback to starting -- when a concussion sustained by Rashean Mathis opened the way for Lawson to get a trial at right cornerback.
Lawson started the last nine games when Mathis did not return. Ultimately, Mathis retired in the offseason.
There are no guarantees for this season, and Lawson is taking nothing for granted about his status.
