From start to finish, summer camp of 2015 with the Detroit Lions has been a kick for Kyle Brindza – even though he knew from the day he checked in that it would end with him heading home to Plymouth without a job.
Brindza met the collision of reality with opportunity head-on when he signed with the Lions as a free agent on May 7. No team took him in the draft after his four years at Notre Dame as a combination punter and kicker.
The opportunity with the Lions was obvious: a chance to sharpen his kicking skills and benefit from training with veteran kicker Matt Prater throughout the offseason workouts, training camp and the preseason games.
