Notes: No team defended fade routes better than the Lions in 2017

Football Outsiders had a fantastic piece last week about how NFL teams defended specific receiver routes. Overall, the Detroit Lions ranked 16th in pass defense according to their DVOA metric, but there were certain routes they were better at defending than others.

Most notably, according to Football Outsiders, no team was better at defending fade routes than the Lions. Detroit only allowed a completion percentage of 10 percent on fade routes, and had a DVOA of -105.1%, nearly 20 percent better than any other team.

That makes sense, considering the Lions have one of the best one-on-one cornerbacks in the league in Darius Slay.
