Notes: Caldwell downplays Stafford's speech

One week after Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was benched, he gave a big pregame speech and then went out and threw four touchdowns to lead his team to its first win of the season.

After the game, veteran kicker Matt Prater said it wasn’t the first time Stafford has given a pregame speech.

“But it was the most memorable,” Prater said. “He was fired up and a little emotional. It was big, it was huge, it was awesome. It made me want to play something else besides kicker.”

Coach Jim Caldwell, however, preferred to play down Stafford’s speech and heroics during his Monday news conference.
