Tahir Whitehead was announced with the other starters on defense before Thursday’s 17-10 victory over Buffalo in the preseason finale.
But while all the rest of those starters sat out to avoid injury, Whitehead was playing well into the second half.
Lions head coach Jim Caldwell said he wanted to see Whitehead in some different situations. It appears Caldwell isn't completely settled just yet on Whitehead being his starting SAM linebacker.
“There were a number of guys that had extended time and really there were obviously, situations where we want to see guys in certain situations we haven’t placed them in,” head coach Jim Caldwell said when asked about Whitehead's playing time.
