Calvin Johnson is a fierce competitor. No one will ever argue that.
If there’s a game, Johnson wants to play his part in it, even if it’s a meaningless preseason contest.
Nonetheless, head coach Jim Caldwell has a pretty good idea what Johnson brings to the table and how he's going to fit into the Lions' plan on offense this season. Caldwell’s No. 1 priority is having his best offensive weapon healthy and ready to go when the games actually count.
So while some of Detroit’s starters may play into the second half in Friday’s third preseason game in Jacksonville, it’s looking more and more unlikely that Johnson sees the field at all.
